About Shubie's Wavehouse

Shubie's Wavehouse is an early stage, angel-funded startup that enables people to enjoy the sport of Flowboarding/surfting all year long. As Austin's ONLY indoor surfing facility and we plan bringing this sport to the forefront of the entire Austin market. The Shubie's Wavehouse website makes it easy to register, and purchase tickets for the store, and share your experience with the world of flowboarding through our 24hr Shubie-Cam and through sites such as twitter and facebook. Instead of reading and writing reviews, you can share photos of specific events you recommend and see what's going on around the world of flowboarding.

Shubie's Wavehouse has received attention from many of Austin's best and brightest business stars, and been dubbed "The home of endless summer" by industry professionals and local publications. Since launching in January 2010, over 15,000 people have preregistered and this only means there is a huge need for a business like ours in Austin.

We are based in Austin, TX and are ideally looking for people to work side by side with us in our beautiful community, but if you're amazing and live elsewhere, we'd still love to talk. We will pay competitive salaries and offer equity options to all full-time employees.

Opportunites

Before we go ANY FURTHER!!!!! WE LOVE STUDENTS!! They are the life blood of our business model and our customer base, that being said, we offer the right students a chance to really step ahead of the class with our many opportunities here...read on. We are looking for about ten people to work a student run consulting, marketing, and design group here in Austin. Compensation will be in the form of a scholarship at the close of the year contingent on wristband volume numbers. Our group will be a chapter of the Shubies Wavehouse Street Team, a field marketing organization, whose mission is to establish and support a local network of student run consulting, marketing,and design groups. We will provide services to local, businesses, and student groups. Our members will have the opportunity to gain management experience, to lead projects, and to grow through our training program and through experience working with real customers.     Community Developer

    We're looking for someone who can help grow Shubie's from the ground up, building a strong local flowboarding community and connect locals & businesses with our company by:

  • Communicating with users through our social media and customer support channels.
  • Developing a content strategy and creating definitive verbal, visual and video content for our Facebook and twitter stream.
  • Coordinating special events for Shubie's and local communities such as surf competitions, community outreach programs, parties, educational events and free surf opportunities.
  • Keeping up with surf fashion trends and events and identifying how we should be participating in them.
  • Helping us imagine new gaming elements, promotions and competitions, and new ways for to engage with one another using the site and events.
  • Developing relationships with the press and keeping them up-to-speed with a regularly stream of stories about what we're up to.
  • Bringing local businesses and Shubies together by identifying opportunities for businesses to engage with and reward their customers.
  • Planning and executing a "Street Team" program for empowering, equipping and rewarding users who coordinate events, reach out to local businesses and create content for their regions.

    Whether you're a blogger, travel writer, PR or marketing maven, or something entirely different, show us that...

  • You've demonstrated experience doing some of the above for a past client or for yourself and can ideally show results: You built a community, attracted a significant following or achieved significant growth through creative marketing efforts or maybe by blogging, tweeting or something we never figured out yet!
  • You understand the needs and motivations of local businesses, especially extreme sports events, ideally through personal experience.
  • You're resourceful (you know what strings you can pull to get things -- event sponsorships, donations, etc.) and creative (you can find ways to do a lot with a little). You're a great writer.
  • You're a rainmaker -- when you plan an event or post a tweet, swarms follow!,
  • You're lovable -- you'll be the face of Shubie's Wavehouse to our users!

    Shubie's Street Team Lead

    We're looking for someone who can accelerate Shubie's growth and identify revenue opportunities by:

  • Forging partnerships with leisure &travel-related media (magazines, TV, newspapers, digital), businesses (local and national businesses, specialty stores (surf/skate/wakeboard), area hotels and merchants), brands (consumer product brands, food and drink brands, travel brands) and causes.
  • Identifying compelling opportunities for media, businesses and brands, including small businesses, to engage with and reward customers through the Shubie’s Wavehouse platform in ways that create value for both the users and the business.
  • Translating Shubie's Wavehouse features into discrete products that can be marketed to media, businesses and brands and refining the messaging around these products.
  • Knowing what these opportunities are worth and negotiating mutually beneficial terms and pricing structures as appropriate.
  • Sourcing, prioritizing, structuring, negotiating, closing and overseeing the implementation of these partnerships.
  • Reaching small businesses through strategic relationships.

    Shubie's Street Team Troop

    Shubie' Wavehouse is looking for a few good marketers in the Austin area to help us in getting our concept out to our demographic.

    Those interested will apply to join the Shubie's Street team. Once selected you will be placed in teams and choose a marketing format together. Because this concept location has never even been attempted in Texas, we want only the best and brightest to aid us in our marketing campaign.

    The task is both challenging and rewarding. We want you to secure as many preregistration's for our Grand Opening in 2011. Our Marketers are free to use any method they choose to secure these preregistrations but they must be entered in our system and completed by August 31, 2011. Based on the total number of registrations received each participant will receive a scholarship for their efforts. We will also offer a scholarship to students for the efforts of the whole marketing project.

    What does this mean to you? Even if you aren't marketing majors you have a chance at getting some of your school paid for (you still have to apply but you understand)!

    How much is up for grabs? We are giving out a total of $80,000 in scholarship money. Schedule an interview to help us bring the home of endless summer to Austin.

    The top teams will receive a 1-year membership to Shubie's Wavehouse, one of the scholarships listed in your market bracket for each member, and a chance to join the Shubie's Wavehouse marketing department full-time.

    Website Development Contractors (potential full-time)

    We're also looking for user experience-minded website developers who can translate and transform our existing website and specifications into a high quality user experience.

    We're looking for talented specialists to contract with us on this work, although if you're an amazing web developer who can do this, we'd love to talk about full time opportunities as well!

    Show us that you can:

  • Create beautiful, polished, pixel-perfect user interfaces
  • Develop high quality visual assets
  • Load and display data from efficiently and progressively unique sites
  • Are proficient in reading, writing, and understanding code (java-script, HTML, Flash, ect)
